Gingival Pigmentation Pattern in Correlation to Skin Color in a Group of Kurdish People in Sulaimani City

Background: Melanin pigmentation of the gingiva appears in all ethnicities. Excessive is an esthetic concern that has increased awareness about depigmentation procedures. This epidemiological study aims to find correlation between skin color and gingival Sulaimani Governorate, Kurdistan/Iraq. Subjects Methods: A total 820 apparently healthy non-smokers, including 338 males 482 females with gingiva, aged (18-40 years old) were enrolled this study. Clinical examination on participants’ gingivae was performed assess color, distribution pigmentations. Afterward participants visually examined divided into six groups according Fitzpatrick scale. Results: Skin (53%) our medium light brown. Most pigmentations observed attached interdental papilla (26.83%) least being marginal (9.27%). statistically significant found intensity their Conclusion: Darker-skinned subjects haveeavieringival compared toair-skinned people Kurdistan/ Iraq.
